NICE guidelines

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has issued its first three ‘rapid guidelines’ on coronavirus. They cover:

Patients requiring anticancer or dialysis treatment may wish to consult the guidelines to get an idea of what they should expect from their care as a matter of good practice.

The guidelines on critical care include guidance on discussing the desired outcome of treatment with patients and relatives, when and how to commence critical care treatment, and when and how to end it. It advises that decisions should always be made with reference to the known desires of the patient, but also taking into account, “the likelihood that a person will recover from their critical care admission to an outcome that is acceptable to them.”
