Consultations and responses

The Patients Association responds to a range of consultations that directly and indirectly affect patients and the health care they receive. By responding to consultations we are able to:

  • Provide organisations with a direct and wide range of public opinion;
  • Alert policy makers to any potential implications of a particular policy position and assist in developing alternative solutions;
  • Assist organisations to improve the quality of the decisions they reach;
  • Contribute a patient-orientated-interest toward key debates on the political agenda;
  • Analyse the state of affairs on a given topic and propose changes that are in the best interests of patients.

If there is a consultation that you or your organisation would like The Patients Association to consider taking part in, then please contact us via our contact page. We look forward to hearing from you.

Response to the consultation on fixed recoverable costs for ‘lower value’ clinical negligence cases

The Patients Association has recommended that the Government should not proceed with proposals to cap the level of costs recoverable in successful claims for clinical negligence. This measure risks excluding patients from justice and discouraging NHS bodies from admitting fault and learning lessons. Read more

Written evidence for the House of Lords Select Committee Inquiry on the long-term sustainability of the NHS

The Patients Association submitted a response to the call for written evidence from the Select Committee on the long-term sustainability of the NHS in the House of Lords. We raised concerns about the current funding level for health and social care arguing that the funding was wholly unrealistic to meet the needs of the population. We called for a review of the removal of NHS bursaries and expressed major concerns at the lack of meaningful public consultation of sustainable transformation plans. …Read more

‘How Can we Improve Support for Carers?’ – The Department of Health

The Patients Association submitted a response to the Department of Health’s consultation on how we can improve support for carers. We expressed concern at the lack of carer involvement in discharge processes and a fear that where carers are asking for support in order to take a break they are unable to access the support to do so. We know from calls to our helpline there is a lack of access to respite care, many callers have also told us how they are struggling to cope this is unacceptable and urgently needs to be addressed. …Read more

Standards for pharmacy professionals – The General Pharmaceutical Council

Despite this, patients must always have the right to expect safe and effective care and those providing this vital service must have the right skills and expertise to deliver it. …Read more
