PATIENTS ASSOCIATION PRESS RELEASE
The National Audit Office’s Report on the National Programme for IT: Progress since 2006
Medical records are at the core of clinical care. Patients have been right to be worried about this project. The findings of the NAO should give Parliament cause for concern but ultimately pause for thought. There is now an opportunity to put patients at the centre of the health service by putting them in control of their records - as with other important elements of their life – rather than a computerised anonymous bureaucracy.
If patients can be trusted with a debit card, there is no reason why they cannot be trusted with their own records.
Contact details: For more information please contact Vice-Chairman Michael Summers on 07909 527 752 or Vanessa Bourne on 07986 629 545. Alternatively please ring the Patients Association office on 0208 423 9111.
