Patients will be telling the NHS directly what the effects of medical error and other safety failures have had on their lives. At a one-day Summit in Harrogate on Tuesday 7th October, patients who have suffered from safety failures will speak face to face with NHS Chairs, Chief Executives, Patient Safety Leads, Non Executives and other staff.

The Patients Association Summit "Safety First: Top of Your Board's Agenda?" will be chaired by Claire Rayner, President, and the Summit's Keynote Speaker will be Sir Richard Branson, Vice President of the Association.

Designed to reinforce the new legal obligations on NHS Trust Boards, the speakers include:

• the Minister, Lord Darzi of Denham
• the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson,
• the Chief Executive of the Healthcare Commission, Anna Walker
• the Chief Executive of the Appointments Commission
• and a host of other leading speakers

There will also be a view from the United States on how the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative led to a safer environment for their patients.

Lynn Faulds Wood, Vice-President of the Patients Association will chair the Question and Answer sessions, and will put key presenters under the safety microscope. The Healthcare Commission will give a Safety Masterclass for all delegates.
